Suntory Yamazaki 2021 Japanese Whisky 700ml

Yamazaki is the pioneer of single malt Japanese whisky, born in Japan’s first and oldest malt distillery. Established in 1923 by Suntory’s founder Shinjiro Torii, the Yamazaki distillery is the birthplace of Japanese whisky. Nestled proudly on the periphery of Kyoto, in a region formerly known as “Minaseno”, Yamazaki is renowned for it’s soft waters. This incomparable quality, combined with Yamazaki’s unique misty climate of  varying temperature and humidity, provides the ideal conditions for making whisky. Here, it’s artisans pursue their founder’s legacy through the art of “Tsukuriwake” – the diversity in the making. Diverse fermentation, distillation and maturation techniques create the blending opportunities that are essential to achieving the signature subtle, refined and complex taste that is the Yamazaki Single Malt Japanese Whisky.

Unlike the previous Yamazaki Limited Editions, the 2021 version will only feature liquid from casks aged 12 years or more. The previous releases featured younger casks. Looking at maturation, fans will be happy to know that the liquid was aged in virgin Mizunara Japanese oak casks, thus expected to impart the banana, incense, and coconut notes Mizunara is most known for. Suntory prepares drinkers for aromas of oranges and nutmeg, followed by coconut, honey, and spice on the palate. The finish will bring vanilla and a hint of smoke.
